From Pastor Tim:
Healthy Elders are better positioned to produce healthy churches. As I mentioned during Sunday’s sermon, everything rises and falls on leadership. This is the time- tested truth that many leadership gurus advocate, such as John Maxwell. And nothing is more important for leaders in the church than being healthy spiritually.
To that end, please commit to praying regularly for the spiritual health of the Elders at RVC. Peter Richardson is our Chairman, John McCully is our Vice- Chairman, Jeff Williams, Andy Carroll and I round out the current team. Warren Beckes, Donnie Pohl and Bill Pruett serve as the “Living Stones”, which is the group of past Elders who are not actively serving currently.
We are all human. We are all sinners. We all say and do things we regret, and those closest to us know how “human” we really are. Although the traits of an Elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 help us discern who is most qualified to serve as an Elder, all Elders are deeply sinful and need daily reminders of the redemption we have through faith in Christ.
So, please pray that all of our Elders are daily drinking in the truths of the Gospel and savoring the blessing the Gospel is for each of our lives. Pray that our Elders are excited and committed to reading our Bibles daily so that we are constantly equipped to fulfill our primary discipling task, which is to teach God’s Word faithfully to the sheep in whatever context God places us.
Pray that our Elders never lose sight of God’s vision, which is that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus the Messiah is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
And pray that the Elders grow daily in our desire to make progress in fulfilling the vision by striving to complete God’s Mission, which is to Go, Make Disciples, Baptize, Teach and Observe all that the Lord has taught us.
Serving with you for the glory of Jesus!
